Why does my TV keep shutting off when connected to my Laptop?!?!?!?
-
I use my 42in TV HDTV 1080i as my monitor for my laptop. I had my older laptop hooked up always, and just got a brand new laptop, same brand with Windows 7 and for some reason, after about 3 minutes of being displayed on the TV its shuts off, as if you weren't touching your computer for a while and it times out. Except i'll be using the computer and all of a sudden it shuts off. I've gone to screen resolution, pressed connect to projector and it will display on my TV, then shut off. I've altered the resolution to a lower level, but then the picture is all messed up on my TV, but when its all messed up looking, it doesn't shut off??? I'm so confused and frustrated!!!! Can anyone help me? I'm not the most tech smart person in the world and would really appreciate someone taking the time to help me make my TV work as the monitor for my new laptop with Windows 7! Thanks sooooooo much!

Answer:
What I would recommend is to use the software utility that came with your laptop video driver to project video to your TV. It sounds like you are using Windows to project the video. Instead try using your video adapter software application instead. Look on your computer, either in the system tray by the clock, or in Start, All Programs for a video application. Look for names like ATI or Nvidia, those are the two most common video adapter manufacturers. When you find the application open it and use that to transfer video to your TV. If for some reason you cannot locate the application, go to Control Panel, choose Device Manager and look for Display Adapters. When you find it expand the + symbol next to it. This will tell you exactly the make and model of video adapter you have. Then you can always go to that manufacturers website and download the software to manage it. I would recommend the above as a first step. If that doesn't work out, then secondly I would try using an HDMI cable between your laptop and your TV. That is of course if you have an HDMI port on your laptop and TV. If you have already have a device like a DVD or Blu-Ray player that is hooked up to the TV using an HDMI cable, go ahead and use that HDMI cable to test with. Hope this info helps you.
