How can I watch cable TV through my computer?

If I plug my computer and cable wire into my tv/monitor, how to watch tv on my computer?

• I know there's a way to do it but do I need additional hardware? Can I do it without?

  what you do is first of all make sure you have a port for it (DVI, VGA,HDMI or DisplayPort) on both devices (if one have DVI and the other have HDMI for example thats fine too as all you need then is a adapter which are easy to find) after that you just plug the cable, lets say its a DVI cable to your tv (with or without adapter) and then on the computer you change your video settings to either mirror or extend the desktop to the other screen (if you want to see the same thing as on your computer or if you want it to act as antoher screen)
