How do i connect a dvd player to a standalone computer monitor?

how old is your monitor? is it flat screen? HD? are there any other hook-ups? i would assume that it is an older monitor that only has VGA or DVI.. My honest opinion for you, if your looking to buy a DVD player to accomodate that, you would be better off buying a cheap flat screen tv to accomodate your new DVD player as well. The monitor just wouldnt be worth trying to use in my opinion. Small hd tvs are fair priced now and probably a better option with more than one use as that monitor would have. Not to mention monitors often have no way of producing sound, or a very poor sound quality that is hard to hear even in immediate proximity. Do yourself a favor and get a TV/dvd combo...

If all it has is a VGA input, you won't be able to plug a DVD player directly into it (even if you got a VGA to whatever adapter) because the monitor relies on a computer video card to generate the VGA signal. What you need is a television that has HDMI, component HD, S-video, or cable input. Or build a cheap computer (check on newegg.com and tigerdirect.com for some bare bones systems) with a DVD drive in it.
