I have just upgraded my computer from Win 98 to Win 2000. My Display settings are maximum of 16 colors, and resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. How do I update this?

Answer:
Pay no heed to the unbelievers! Windows 2000 still has some life in it yet and Windows Vista is full of bugs and compatibility problems (not to mention the built-in Digital Rights Management software). You will probably need to update your display driver: Either open up your PC and see what video card is installed (though it may be onboard graphics) or download CPU-Z or BelArc Advisor to view all the hardware installed in your computer. When you have found the make and model of your graphics card you can visit the manufacturer's website to search for the most recent available display driver. Also, check that it's not something simple; go to "display properties" and make sure that you don't have an option to change from 16 colors to 32 or higher.

You'll need to go to the manufacturer for your video card to obtain a video driver for Win2K. . If you have built-in video you need to go to the motherboard manufacturer. If the PC is a dell, gateway, HP or compaq, go to the appropriate website to get the driver. -best luck

I'd assume that since you are aware of the resolution that you had a higher esolution previously. If not then you may not be able to get a higher resolution. Try this: Updating the graphics driver. Search google for aida 32 - usually the first link is to majorgeeks.com (trusted download site) click this link, choose a mirror to download from - I generally use the french server due to distance. Unzip the files and run the program file "aida32" When it has scanned and opens select: Computer - Summary Scroll down to the graphics adapter description - this gives you the model of graphics card you have. Hover over the description and a box pops open - bottom option is driver download - click it and update the driver - this should sort it. Sometimes aida's links are outdated as the app is n o longer produced, but you will have the adapter info (and all other mainboard and computer info) so you can search for the updated drivers, or hover the motherboard description and click driver download.

Go to Control Panel > Display > Settings The resolution changer should be in there.

Windows didn't install the correct drivers for your monitor and/or video card. Right click on "My computer", Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager. It's likely that the video card has a small yellow exclamation point on it. double click it and go through the wizard. if it can't locate the driver, you can either find the correct driver on the manufacturer's website or on a CD you would have received with the computer when you bought it. Repeat this process to get the driver for the monitor, and you should be all set.

Hi Simon; Actually it is pretty easy. 1. Go to "My Computer", then go to the the Control Panel 2. From the Control Panel, select "Display" 3. Select the "Settings" tab. You will see the color and pixel resolution selections there. If 16 bit resolution and 800 x 600 pixels is all you can select, you will need to reload the drivers for your video card. Otherwise, just select 32 bit color and whatever pixel selection you want, and restart your computer. Hope this helps!
