Why does my computer monitor flicker?

My computer monitor is starting to flicker. Should it be replaced soon?

  • I have used this CRT monitor for almost 5 years and the monitor was manufactured in August of 1996. I tap the monitor to make it stop flickering and it continues to flicker off and on. Is it time for a replacement?

    Yes, it is most likely about that time. I've had several of them do this over time, I would certainly consider at least the purchase so that when it gives out for good, you'll be ready. Meanwhile, it depends on your tolerance of this annoyance, I've had monitors do that for well over a year before they quit for good, but I've also had them go down within a week or a month, so there's no telling how much longer it can last. It is, however, if you can tolerate it, one way you can put off the purchase until it becomes absolutely necessary. Keep in mind when it goes, it's done... In my case, we have a 24hr. Walmart so I can get a replacement monitor on Sunday at 3am in the morning, but if you do not have this convenience, it may be a good idea to purchase the monitor and leave it in the box stored away until such time you need it.

The chances are very good that you'll have to replace it. But, prior to doing that, try this first: Right click on a blank space on your desktop, click on Properties, then on "Settings", then on "Monitor", and then on "Advanced". On that window you'll see a choice for "Refresh Rate". Change it from 60 hertz to 75 hertz. Reboot and see if that does the trick. If not, start looking for a new monitor. Hope this helps.

yes i think it is. is the color going warped as well that is a sure sign of the moniter dying

yeah even i had this problem last month wit my 4 year old crt monitor . i had replace an ic inside it , dont worry thats not a big problem
