Why does my computer sometimes blackout?

Computer Monitor Blackout?

  • Hello everyone. I've been having a problem lately with my computer monitor blacking out. It don't happen all the time, but randomly. Like once or twice every few days. Never had this problem before. I have Dell Dimension 2400 with a flat screen. Integrated graphics. CPU is 2.4 GHz. Sometimes when I boot the computer for the first time, the screen will be black, or just randomly goes out at some point during the day. When I tap the screen, it comes back on. Does this sound like a monitor issue to you? Connection? A friend told me to check the refresh rate. I think it's running at 60 hertz right now. I can go to 70 or 75. Should I up it? I'm not sure what to think. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    same exact one i have. All i did when that happens is i unplug everything and it hasn't happened to me since!

Sounds like the Monitor has got the problem. Try it on another computer to see if it does the same thing this will help eliminate that problem if it does the same thing on a new computer and Monitor can be replaced cheaply from any computer store. If it doesn't then its the video on the Motherboard that is bad. You will have to contact Dell about having it serviced. Should only take them about a month to fix or replace it.

This sounds like a monitor issue. I've had problems with the display board malfunctioning that caused this problem. It's a repairable problem but you'd need a technician for it.
