Is my laptop LCD screen broken?
-
I know it sounds like a stupid question, but is my laptop LCD screen broken? I was just researching online, youtube and stuff, and suddenly this 1 1/2 inch thick rainbow colored bar appears on my screen, about 2 inches from the right. I mean, my old laptop screen broke and something like this happened, but that was because I dropped it, and it was a notebook laptop. And here I am, just researching online, with a big and tough Acer that's been perfectly fine for four years, and suddenly "the bar" appears. I don't how how in the world the screen broke, if its even broken. Help? Can you at least tell me if it's broken, and if it is, how it broke? thanks a bunch! Oh, and if it helps I'm using this laptop whilst lying on the bed. No reason for it to break (?). I've actually dropped off the bed about two years ago, and nothing like this happened. I know I sound redundant, but I just honestly canNOT understand how this bar just appears on my screen. Oh, and I really need help by the way, since this isn't "my laptop", like what I've been saying. It's actually my grandfather's, and he would just freak if he found out. Uggh, life. Anyway, thank you in advance for those who will answer my question! I apologize if this is really long, i'm just seriously confused. Oh, and if you forgot my question it's: "Can yout tell me if it's broken, and if it is, how it broke?" thanks again!

Answer:
It sounds like it may be, I am not very familiar with laptop LCD's, but possibly it happened simply because of age. The mechanics in screens go bad just like any other sort of electronic. Four years is a good life for a laptop. Your grandfather shouldn't be mad, it's not like you had any control over it. What you can tell him is that I told you after a time period of four years, sometimes things can't help but go bad. You can simply get the screen replaced (if the manufacturer supports that model still). It may be cheaper to buy a new laptop, especially with the value of a four year old acer. And you can get your information off of the computer with an external harddrive, don't worry about if you can't get on the computer to retrieve the files, just go somewhere that has an external harddrive and they can service it for you.
