Can a VGA cable record your tv to your computer?

I need to output my computer to tv?

  • Ok I don't need good quality. I just want to lose my screen to my computer that I use as a dvr system. I only record the programs on the computer and use it to store videos. I am using a monitor beside the computer but would like to try and minimize my system. i know I could buy a video card but right now I am very strapped for cash and well I have 10 dollars to use on a vga to component cable. I want to know how the quality is on these though if anyone can help me out I would be appreciate it immensely. I found one for like 3 bucks without shipping and it would make it very easy for me. All I need it for it so I can change to the computer on my tv and schedule what to record or to change a setting or two every so often. Thanks for the help in advance

    That will NEVER work. Those VGA-to-component cables are intended for video cards that have a specially-built VGA port capable of sending out a component signal. It will NOT work with just any VGA port.

Depends on the TV.. If its one of the newer flat panel TVs check to see if you have a VGA connection.. S-Video is also soemthign you want to look for.. If you have HDMI on your PC and your TV then you are better off. If you are using one of those big old TVs.. I will tell you now.. Your resolution and refresh rate will be aweful but it is doable.. Use your adapters.. but you will stil have crap for a picture

That won't even work. That cable requires a certain video card that outputs component video through the vga connector. I suggest you buy a second hand, older video card.
