Why does my computer screen go black randomly?

  • I am using a Dell Inspiron 1526 laptop that I just got a week ago. For some reason, my screen will randomly turn black while I am using it, but the computer will stay on. This will happen when I'm browsing the internet or while I'm typing a paper. I can't get the screen to come back on, so I always have to shut the computer off and restart it. I changed the sleep mode to never just a few mins. ago, so I hope this works. If not, is there anything else that I should know about my computer?

    THERE IS PROBABLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE GRAPHIC CARD. SO I WOULD TAKE IT BACK TO WHERE U GO IT AND ASK FO UR MONEY BACK AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND BUY ONE. OR ASK FO A REPLACEMENT. IF YOUR TYPING TURNING IT TO NEVA SHUT OFF WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUE IT SHOULD SHUT DOWN IF IT HAS ACTION HAPPENING ....

changing all power settings to "never" doesn't work, I have the same trouble with my laptop. Its an HP, the backlight shuts off but i've had it for like 5 years. If you just got yours a week ago (from a retailer, not a private seller) i suggest taking it back. You should call ahead to see what they can do for you, but they should take it back as defective and give you a new one, you usually have 14 days. If it's too late for that there is usually a manufacturers warranty. Good luck!

It's overheating. There is a sensor in the computer that detects when it is to hot. Try turning the brightness down. Or it might be a scc virus that shut your screen off every certain number of minutes.

Maybe it's a Democratic voter.

restarting ur com. unproperly can damage ur com., my suggestion is to buy a new one or get it fixed, but stop restarting!!!

Try changing ALL the power parameters to never. Make sure you press apply, then OK. You can change it back when you are running on batteries, or not.

Well, one thing you should know is that if you updated Vista to SP1, that is the new security feature for pirated versions. Screen goes black until you reboot or purchase a legal copy.

sounds like theres some faulty wiring... i think u should get it shipped back, it must be underwarranty still.. some computers are duds ... nip it in the bud contact them fast edit: So why is n i p a bad word?
