While using my PC, My monitor will cut off, but the PC keeps running. What can I do to fix it?
-
The PC boots fine and works great until the monitor just goes out and then I have to kill the power to get the PC back up and running when it does this. I have changed the powersupply, RAM, hard drive and even the video card.

Answer:
Does the monitor go into standby mode, or just die? You can tell if the monitor goes into standby mode because the power LED on the monitor will turn yellow. If this is the case, then go into the Power Options settings (in Control Panel) and make sure that the 'Turn Off Monitor' setting is set to 'Never.' If that doesn't work, then try disabling the standby/suspend feature in your BIOS settings. If the monitor just dies, then that means that the power supply in your monitor is failing. This usually happens with CRT monitors, but it could happen with LCD monitors too. Try using the monitor on a friend's computer to make sure that the monitor is working properly. Leave the monitor on for a few hours.

Might be time to change the monitor or video driver

Well. If you have gone to all that trouble i hate to suggest something so simple, but are u sure your monitor isnt set to go to sleep. Mine was like that and I couldnt find anyway to wake it up via keyboard shortcut buttons or buttons on the monitor. I had to shut it down as well. But there should be setting for your monitor to choose not to let it go to sleep, if that's the problem. It was with mine. Good luck.

If its a Flat Screen, see if it is under warranty, cos something has gone. If its a CRT, you can probably replace it for next to nothing. One question: is the Video Output from the PC Card Analogue or DVI?, and what is the Monitor set to? One other Possibility is the Power Management setting in Control panel has been set to a Shut off time, or some sort of shutdown sequence of there is little or no PC use.

First check all the external connections before you panick. After you're certain that all external connections are secure, if the problem isn't resolved, if it were me, I would open the computer (when the power is off and the box is disconnected, of course), and make sure the video card is securely seated in the motherboard. While you're at it, clean out any dust that has built up inside your computer. Also, if your video card has a fan on it's heat sink, make sure the fan is not blocked by some stray wire, such as the small cable running from the CD ROM to the sound card, etc. Heat and dust are the two biggest enemies of computers, so if there is a fan on the video card and it's not running, the heat could easily shut off the video without affecting anything else. If all else fails, I would first replace the video card before replacing the monitor - if that solves the problem, it's a lot cheaper than buying a new monitor. Save the expensive "fix" (ie buying a new monitor) only as your last resort. Good luck.

If you have already checked for a loose/defective monitor cord, it sounds like your monitor is giving up the ghost, unless you have power management configured incorrectly. Try the monitor on another computer and if it does the same thing, then trash the monitor.

You should of just changed the monitor it is going bad, once it heats up it dies. But hey at least your pc is practically new now. Go get a new monitor........ Oooo b4 you do that, check one setting, it is in the control panel start button/control panel/ power options. Make sure your monitor and hard drive and power is not set to shut down after so many minutes. Select Never shut down on all options.

I would say to first check the settings of your video card and see that it is compatible with the monitor settings such as the resolution and the colors you use. Also i would see if you have the power save options on. If that is all fine in the computer then check the cables and make sure they are all tight, if they are see if any are crimped or look like they may have a bend in them, if they do try to straighten them becuase this may cause a break in the line. If all that still does not work then you need a new monitor.
