How do I know when I need a new LCD monitor?

I need a new lcd monitor. How do I know what good pixel and resolution are?

  • I just bought and returned one because there appeared to be blurry spots all over the screen.

  • Answer:

It varies by what you want to do, and what your basic pc usage type is. Take a read of a useful article that has some explanations on the basic things you need to know http://www.citylinkpcs.com.au/userguide_lcd_monitor.htm and good luck in choosing a monitor. My preference is viewsonic, or hp. they have some excellent LCD monitors.

Oh dear: you didnt? The blurriness was almost certainly caused by running the monitor in a resolution that differed from its Natural/Native Resolution. Its an issue inherent only in LCD monitors and is a result of their manufacture. When used at its Native Resolution the screen should look very crisp and neat: anything else and the image begins to lose its sharpness and definition. At much lower resolutions it can get noticeably blurry. When purchasing your next LCD make sure you know what its native resolution is. Depending on the Aspect Ratio and Size of the screen this can be a resolution anywhere from 1024x768, up to 1600x1200. My own has a Native Res of 1280x1024, a screen size of 17" and a standard aspect ratio of 4:3 Thats your main issue I think. My extra advice is to look for a display that says it is TFT (has a Thin Film Transistor layer) and has a response time under 8-10ms. Pre-TFT LCDs are what gave LCDs a bad name - "Mouse Blur Trail"
