What does matching your screen resolution to the resolution of a video file do?
-
for example if my screen resolution was 680X680 what will matching it with a video of 1200X1200 do? does it enhances the graffics? or improve in anyway

Answer:
If you leave your display resolution at it's highest allowed setting and play your video in a window, you'll most likely be viewing the video with optimal performance. If your video resolution is larger than your desktop, you won't be able to see the entire video image, unless you "zoom out". If your video resolution happens to equal your desktop's resolution, and your have a good enough CPU, GPU, and RAM, you'll be able to see your video at it's optimal quality. If you're watching your video in full screen and the video size is, say 640x480, but your desktop resolution is, say 1680 x 1050, your video player will most likely optimize the video using a video overlay, which blend missing pixels together. If you watch any video that has a resolution higher than your display's native resolution, you could experience page tearing, and/or a lag in performance. For example: my 20.1" display has a maximum resolution of 1680x1050 pixels, but has a lower native resolution because my monitor is an LCD and requires interpolation (scaling of the image). There are other factors to consider when "fine tuning" your display for optimal resolution and performance. Connection (via DVI, HDMI, VGA, and Component), graphics card limitations, and OS limitations, as well as available resources. Also, the type of display makes a tremendous difference in optimizing the clarity of viewing video and high-resolution images. You should see the Wikipedia article linked below for a better understanding of what I'm talking about.
