My monitor keeps getting darker?

Monitor keeps blinking on and off?

  • My computer monitor (19 inch hp pavilion vf17) keeps blinking on and off when I turn on my computer. At first, I thought it was a problem with my actual computer, but then I plugged in my friend's monitor and everything worked fine. When I plugged in my own monitor to an electrical outlet, it continued blinking on and off (little light on the bottom flashes from green to blank). This happened to me a few weeks earlier, but after turning my computer on and off a couple of times, my monitor was normal. Now, it is starting to blink on and off again. Is there a way to fix this problem without actually getting a new monitor or having someone else fix it? I'm a college student and cannot afford to replace one. Any suggestions??

  • Answer:

There could be a cut in the power cord, try replacing the power cord then degauss..

Hmmmm sorry to say but i think its had it.... Exactly the same thing happened to with my old monitor. I did the whole change the monitor over and the other monitor worked fine. Plugged the broken monitor into another comp and it still blinked. It is a hardware fault that could maybe be fixed but it would cost u... If its worth getting a new one or the old one fixed is up to you. I used it as an excuse to buy a 22" Samsung gaming monitor :) Nice i like

Does it do this past boot-up? Meaning does it turn on and off while you are working on items or trying to log in? I so you have a broken monitor. If not then this is just normal its part of POST usually at boot up. Post is when the computer checks if everything is working right.

My Samsung 915N is doing something similar. After it has been on for a couple of hours, it will start blinking, loose its setup information, and switch to its default contrast and brightness. I think the power supply within the display is failing.

First, check your power cord; at your CPU and home electrical network. Second, check CPU power supply
