What do I do when there are vertical lines on my laptop screen?

What do vertical lines appearing on my laptop screen mean? 1 suddenly appeared near the middle, then another a?

  • week or two later, then another. Those three had different spacings, two were yellow, one was pink. Then 2 more appeared on the left hand side a few more weeks later, turquoise. Quite fetching, but I could do without them. Any ideas on what's going on, and does it portend something sinister, or can I just ignore them? Thanks for any help.

  • Answer:

Screen is on it's way out. It needs replacing. In some cases it is cheaper to buy a new laptop as they the most expensive part to replace. The best thing to do is take it into a workshop and see what they have to say.

Could be screen/graphics chip failing, or just a loose connection on the screen cable. They can be a bit of a sod to open up to re-seat the cable though. I have fixed a few by re-seating the cable, also broke one completely so its really a kill or cure option. Local PC store may do it for a fee.

It probably means your screen is about to go. There are a few programs out there that claim to fix stuck pixels using flashing or color changing "static" but I've never had to try them myself. Google for stuck pixel fix.

The Screen itself or the Driver software for the screen is having a problem !
