Why does my monitor keep turning off?

Why does my monitor keep turning off when my pc is still on?

  • When i turn on my pc the monitor turns on normally and right after its ready all of a sudden my monitor turns off and it tells me theres no signal or power to the pc. The pc still remains on. I already checked to see if everything is connected right. does anyone have an idea whats going on? is it the video memory?

  • Answer:

Well if u get display on the monitor saying no signal then there may be problem in connection or there may be problem in the post of the video card. See that there is no dust accumulated. Unplug ur monitor wire and blow once (Wire as well as port) and try it. This may help you.

I was going to ask the same question. My monitor turns off all by itself when the PC is on!!! Monitor goes from ON [green] to OFF [orange]. I have to restart my PC two or even three times before it stays on and once back it stays on for good. 6/7 times that happened. I know ppl said video card .. but I am not playing games, or watching any videos when that happes. Anywayz, I took all their advice, and I have cheked the followings. > Power management setting is ok. > the cables aren't anchored. > Power supply is good, it is giving my video card enogh power. > I also checked the video card (it can't be the problem cause I bought it few days ago!!). Anyway, I checked. The card was not loose in the socket or anything Yet my monitor still losing its signal. So, I think I finally found out what happened here. It is the motherboard which is getting overheated and causing my monitor to go blank. I leave my computer on 24/7. Could this be the reason? I dunno .. I think I will get the fans checked to see if they are working. Perhaps I should install more case fans or HDD coolers. Oh, and in case u r wondering, these are the fans you need to get checked--- 1. CPU fan 2. Graphics-Card fan 3. Power Supply fan So yeah .. if the problem still continues after fixing video cards and everything, you can consider it as a heating-problem. and in that case get professional help. that is what I am going to do now. Goodluck with yours.

Its your video card. It has nothing to do with the settings in the computer. Give this a try and see if it helps. 1. Open the back of the computer and use one of those compressed air cans to blow around the video card. (look for the card attached to the VGA port) Also make sure to blow out any dust inside the VGA port as well. Remove the card if needed to get a better cleaning. 2. Insert card and give it a try. If it still doesn't work after that, your gonna need a new card. They do tend to short out alot. Especially on the Dell desktops. There pretty cheap though, Maybe 30 - 40 bucks. Just contact your computer company that makes your model and ask them what type and where to get it, or just do an online search. You can probably find them cheaper online. Hope this helps and good luck. Oh and VGA is the port where you plug your monitor into the computer. Just in case you didn't know.

maybe someone is messing with you and set the power-saver feature to shut the monitor off after 1 minute of inactivity. Check the setting in start->settings->control panel->power options (this is if you use XP)
