Wide Screen Monitor help?

HELP! My monitor keeps going to black screen.?

  • My Asus computer monitor will go to a black screen, almost like it has turned itself off. It might be working fine for any random amount of time when the computer is first turned on, but then it will suddenly go to a completely black screen. It doesn't matter what I was doing at the time whether I was watching, playing or typing something. The power light on the monitor is still on, and whatever I was doing on the computer is not affected but to get rid of the black screen I have to turn the monitor off, then on again. Normal viewing resumes, however after the first time I turn the monitor off and on it is only an matter of minutes, sometimes seconds before it does it again. After having to do this repetitively I usually just close whatever I was doing and turn the computer off and leave it for a few hours or so. Altering the display/power/screen saver settings does nothing at all. Is there anyone out there who can help with my problem. I'm at my wits end and thinking of just buying a new monitor. Any input would be much appreciated.

Like you said, your work is not affected and it is still there when you switch your monitor on and off, I believe your VGA cable/cord is damaged and needs replacement (not the power cord). Have your VGA cord changed. If your monitor supports male/female VGA cable connector, then you can simply buy and replace it your self. If it is soled at one end, then you will have to take your monitor to some shop and have it soled there. Also try one more thing when you face this issue again. When your monitor displays black screen, press numlock/capslock to check that your PC is not at fault. If numlock/capslock LED turns on and off, then it is monitor VGA cord which needs replacement.

I had an asus computer with th same problem as you. I changed my cord ( the part which plugs into the wall ) and i pluigged it into another outlet which did not have other plugs. If you plug it into an extension which also takes care of about 2-5 other things, it may not have the power to give your screen the light. I did that and it worked but its not a 100%

First check your connections, and make sure that you dont have too many things plugged into the outlet. Do not use an extension cord because unless it is a good heavy duty gauged cord it will not have enough power going through it. Try another power cord and make sure there is not a bunch of stuff stacked on or around the monitor causing it to overheat.

Check the power cord. Is it plugged directly into a outlet or surge protector? Are the connections tight? Some power bars do not distrubite power properly. Also keep in mind, are your drivers up to date, is your computer up to date as well? If theres no change, try changing cords and checking the way your cords plug into your PC.

that was happening to me and all it was is that the cord from the monitor to the computer wasnt pushed in all the way. try pushing it in to make sure its plugged in good.
