Why does a CRT screen flicker when recorded by camera.?

A normal CRT screen has a "refresh" period where the electron beam is actually moving from the bottom of the screen where it finished drawing the screen back to the top. This period the screen is actually blank or partically blank. The human eye cannot see this, so it's not a problem. But to a camera which freezes time in a split second, it can catch this time when the monitor is in it's blanking stage. Since most monitors are shipped running at 60 hertz on the refresh, you will usually capture half of the screen during it's blanking period as video cameras run at normal 30 frames per second. If you want to reduce the "flicker" seen, up your refresh rate on your monitor. By doing this you reduce the chance of the video camera seeing the blanking period of the monitor. Do this in Windows by right clicking on the screen, clicking the "settings" tab and then click on "advanced". Under the "monitor" tab you will find the refresh rate setting. Usually setting to a higher refresh also makes viewing the screen easier on the eyes. And many gamers prefer a higher rate to make games look more fluid. This might not elminate the "flicker" on video, but should reduce it a lot. Try many different rates if you monitor will handle it.
