My lcd monitor turns itself off?

My LCD Flatscreen HP Monitor Turns off in 5 seconds... Why?

  • It is plugged in, it was working fine yesterday... it turns on for like 5 seconds (literally), and then it just turns off and if powered off and on it does the same... I am using the same computer with a different monitor right now, so it isn't the computer obviously... Also, if you unplug it from the computer, it doesn't do anything (like, it doesn't reset as when you turn the monitor off and on)... Any help would be great, thanks...

  • Answer:

Many LCD monitors will automatically go into power-saving mode if they don't detect a video signal. For example, if your LCD monitor has two video inputs (like one DVI and one VGA) and the input selector is set to VGA but your computer is connected via DVI, then the LCD might, upon power-on, notice that no video signal is present on the VGA input and go into power-saving mode. Double-check that your computer is connected to the proper video input jack on the LCD monitor, and that you're selecting that video input on the monitor itself.
