How to install Windows XP from Pen Drive?

My friend buy simmtronics laptop recently, in which there is no DVD-Drive how to install the OS.?

  • My friend buy simmtronics laptop With Intel atom processor recently, in which there is no DVD-Drive. At present windows XP is installed. In case of windows failure I want to know how to install windows XP again or higher versions of windows in it. I know to install the windows from pen drive itself by booting up the system in USB. But in my friend system in the BIOS boot menu there is no such option to set the first boot as USB-Drive. Please post how to install the OS via pen drive if the USB-Boot is not available on the Boot menu of BIOS. Also give any other alternate methods are available to install windows os if DVD drive is not available.

  • Answer:

You can boot through USB.. Download FreeDOS and make a bootable DOS USB Key. Copy Win XP installer on this. Then move over to other laptop, boot from DOS and install WinXP. Similar steps for Ubuntu. Another Step is:- 1. First think you need is a FAT32 partition wherein you can copy the entire windows (xp) cd. 2. Next, you need a bootable floppy/ thumb drive with dos AND smartdrv. If smartdrv is not loaded, it will takes ages to copy the files. 3. Once the computer boots into dos, load smartdrv and then switch over to the windows folder and run winnt.exe from there. That should do the trick.
