How do I connect my projector to my laptop?

I have a projector with only an AV input. How can I connect it to my laptop?

  • Bought a reasonable projector at a very decent price, but it only has the one input. It came with a very short AV lead that goes from the yellow, red and white end to a single plug into the projector. The coloured ends are the ones you find in a TV, and need others to plug INTO THEM - my lead has the holes - female? (that's the only way I know how to describe which ends they are). My laptop has both VGA and HDMI in/outputs, as well as USB. I'd like to know which converter lead, or selection of leads, would be best to use if possible, or if nothing will make it convert properly and I need to get another projector. I'm willing to spend £10 - £20 on leads if necessary. I know I could use an RGB lead for the visual, but as this is for use with my Foley work, sound is rather important, and I won't be getting studio monitors for a while. Thanks in advance!

The lead squalldesu gave the link to won't work - this is for the few graphics adapters that have a TV out function. You need a VGA-RCA converter such as this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Proxima-Composite-Converter-S-Video-delivery/dp/B004TCXING/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1330815691&sr=8-2 This also comes with 3.5mm stereo - RCA cable to connect the audio. The picture will not be good however. The reason you got the projector at good price is because of the poor connectivity will limit the screen resolution to no better than a television which is far worse than a computer monitor or a better quality projector HTH David

You may be able to use a VGA to Composite (RCA) adapter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882339047 I've personally never used one, but I was able to use an S-video to Composite adapter on a computer that had S-video out.
