Laptop not recognizing my hard drive anymore?

Hard Drive issues what do i do?

  • I recently bought a western digital 160GB SATA hard drive to replace Toshiba 80GB SATA hard drive as i needed more hard drive space. Now i am trying to install windows XP onto this new hard drive but its just not happening. All i keep on getting is a broadcom PXE-61 media failure. I have tried to put the ATAPI CD ROM at first on the boot sequence for it to boot from a boot cd but still no success. It doesn't even appear to be recognizing the Windows XP re-installation CDS (that i assume are bootable) that i have or the Dell inspirion cd that came with the laptop. I know the CDS work, because when i put them in another computer i see the option to install inspirion and install windows XP come on screen. But i don't know if they are bootable. Please can somebody help me....

  • Answer:

It seems that you are booting from the network. Go to the BIOS and disable booting from the network. Also in the boot menu, make your CD/DVD drive the first boot then insert your XP disc, click on " exit saving changes", now your computer will boot from the XP disc.
