How can I make my Powerbook G4 run more efficiently?

    Bootcamp windows. ;p Only joking! You need to get a external hard drive and transfer all images/music/movies to it. Then delete all the one that you don't want from the laptops HDD (ypu can always put it back on later from the external HDD) I would buy more RAM you don't say how much you have but 2GB is about right, the mini mac shipps with 256/512 and it is just not enough OS X NEEDS 1GB and will love 2. A drastic option to free up space would be to uninstall the office suite you use and use open office or neo office as the mac version is called. As long as you have the office suite CD you can reinstall if you really cannot cope with neo. You can replace other heavy apps with lightweight alternatives, mac users and windows users love mozilla firefox and thunderbird but have you heard of it's little brother seamonkey, a tiny web browser and email client.

For any computer, Kill all and any spyware on your computer iwth ad-aware ( free) and keep your fire wall up all ways. Also delete any unwanted or unnesscary stuff. Try to store pictures and movies on a Removalbe external harddrive. Also shut down all programs runnign in the background.

First go through your hard drive and trash anything you don't need or use anymore. Things you want to save, but rarely use, burn to a CD or DVD. Even an external drive. Defrag your hard drive with something like TechTool. Use Disc Warrior to rebuild your directories. Perform a permissions repair using your built in Disc Utility. Max out the RAM. Enjoy!
