How much could i sell my Toshiba Laptop for?

How do i wipe a toshiba laptop computer before i sell it?

  • I have an old Toshiba laptop and want to sell it to a friend. I just want to wipe everything from memory and re-load the windows xp software before I sell it on.

  • Answer:

Try using the built in recovery software that came with the 'top. hen you restart press F10 or F-w/e to start the built in recovery software. Then browse around there till you find the recovery stuff. It will wipe your PC and then restore it back to factory.

Get Eraser and it look at Nuke It, is part of Eraser program. http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/historyfile.php That is an older URL, but look at it on Sourceforge.

Ok. Put the disc in the computer and when it gives u the option of a 'reload' or 'repair' choose the 'reload' option and the computer will clear the hard drive b4 it loads Windows again.

use eraser file shredder like the man says, formatting your hard drive does not completley erase data ,it leaves a footprint, file shredder deletes old files securley by overwriting the data up to 35x!!

Having studied the other 3 answers to your questions (that was the number at the time of writing) I should warn you that reformatting your hard drive or re-installing Windows will *NOT* delete the old information on the hard drive. This fact saved me when my computer fried on me, I panicked, and used the "recovery" disk that my laptop's manufacturer included. There is, fortunately for me, software that will recover deleted partitions and there is software that can read information off of a reformatted hard drive. If you want to be ultra-careful, you need to get something that will write gibberish or a pattern of 1s and 0s on every part of your hard drive. There are many commercial, shareware, and freeware products that will do this. One such package, "Darik's Boot and Nuke" is available at: http://dban.sourceforge.net/. Use something like this, and then reformat your hard drive and re-install Windows and you'll probably be okay, unless your friend works for the U.S. National Security Agency.

I think you should. It's a good idea to because your friend might detect something that has your personal information on it. Or he might be annoyed that he has the hard drive loaded with your crap.

Another thing you could do (if you don't want to use a utility) is delete everything, then fill your hard disk with copies of, say, a video (nice and big). This will overwrite the original stuff you deleted.

To be absolutely sure - it is best to buy a new hard drive, if you are confident doing that. Other wise, it is a good idea to defragment the hard drive first, to make sure that the information (data) is in the right place to be formatted (i.e at the beginning of the drive). If you delete everything that you don't need, then defrag, the data that will be over-written by reloading the operating system will be at the front and properly over written. The danger other wise if that the info will be just 'flagged' as deleted or formatted, which nowadays is fairly easy to undelete.
