people are programmed to say that macs are good for design, but i am a designer, and the fact is that you are not looking for a brand, you are looking for specs, and then you are looking for a warranty. apples are great, and i love them, but the fact is you can get a notebook that is every bit as powerful for about one fourth less. also, of the software you mentioned, none of those applications require a very powerful laptop. make sure you have at least 1gb of ram, and then a nice fast processor, and very importantly, get a brand that has excellent customer service, and definitely purchase the extended warranty. i can't imagine you should spend more than 999 dollars for what you need.

You heard right, I LOVE my mac, I use it for is basic things like writing papers and e-mail AND I make videos on it. If you aren't sure, you can start with a great referbished one (comes with warrenty from mac store) and then get a nicer one later if you want to upgrade.

Get a MacBook Pro. (or a at least a MacBook)

If by graphic design you mean only 2D work then you don't need to spend that much money but if you want a notebook to do 3D work it would require a battery draining dedicated graphics card which would increase the price.

I suppose mac would be good, but if you would like, i could custom build you a laptop with windows and it would be a whole lot cheaper with a lot better specs on it than mac would offer. Heres a sample system which is priced at $1850 including shipping. Casing: Asus S96Jm CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 2.16GHz 4M shared L2 Cache RAM: 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory Video: ATI Radeon X1600 Graphics-256MB VRAM (expandable to 512mb from use of RAM) Screen: 15.4" WXGA (1280x800) Operating System: Windows XP Home Windows XP Pro (add $50) OTHER: Built in WebCam Built in a/b/g Wireless Black Carry Bag Built-in Bluetooth If you are interested, then message me for more details on the above system, or if you want me to customize a different system to your specifications. Thanks
