How to connect Compaq laptop to TV?

Laptop has cracked LCD how do i connect a external lcd tv?

• i have the VGA on the laptop, but when it broke i didnt know what was wrong so we powered it off and turned it back on again... now about a half a year later i had the idea to connect an external monitor to it, but nothing happens. i tried the fn+f4 still nothing. Is there a way that i can like open it up and make the vga the primary thing or whatever? i got a new laptop i just want to be able to use it as a computer i geuss. dont worry about the sound part.. i have an audio to audio cable for that to the tv. Its a compaq presario cq60-417CA running windows vista home prenium.

  So you've got a monitor hooked up to the external VGA port on the back of your laptop which has a "cracked" LCD and you get no video to the monitor... ..what type of monitor is it? Does it show any video like a message saying "no video input signal detected"? ...do you still get video on your cracked LCD that you can see well enough to do some simple tasks like accessing your video settings? ...is the "fn+f4" the keys you hit to set up your BIOS ROM instead of F1 or F2? Edit: well, if the monitor isn't detecting any video coming out and there is no video at all on your LCD then it's "possible" that your video circuitry is out of commission, but that's not the only possibility. When you turn the laptop on does it make "the usual" noises? Can you try holding down the F1 key or F2 key when you power it on and see if anything changes in the realm of video or a change in "beeps" as it's booting? Edit 2: noo beeps, no screen change and the start up sound didnt go off either OK. Are you sure that it has power? Does a light come on anywhere or anything? If you have power and you aren't hearing anything when you turn it on then it sounds like maybe more than the LCD could be cracked. Maybe there's a crack on the motherboard too or something like that. Did it get dropped or something, or did something hit the screen and that's the only part that probably got damaged?
