My Dell Inspiron laptop (8200) say reinstall this file???what!?

  • My Dell Inspiron laptop (8200) say reinstall this file???what!? Ok so my laptop gets unplugged by accident and I go to turn it back on and it says this... windows couldn't start because the following file is missing or corrupt : <windows root>\system32\hal.dll please reinstall a copy of the above file. ok so this is a friends laptop and I have not had any experiance in fixing laptops or recovering them, so I put the windows xp cd in and nothing it will do one of two things, it will either bring up same message or bring the enter set up up, but or a blank black empty screen ... so what I am asking is what button do I push to get windows cd to start the recovery or what else should I do or at the very least what do I do any suggestions. I will be online at gypsywoman121 on the yahoo messager for awhile, best answer will get best answer... lol please help me thanks.

    Ok so you need to use your system restore disk or an Xp disk. You will have to use the repair console. To load from the disk.. Go into the Bio's and set it to load from CD frist.. then the HDD. Blah blah blah If you have any troubles u can reach me in my site. www.BigGHome.com Big G

Either press one of the function keys or the del key during boot to choose to boot from the cd, then press a key when it asks to start it installing, at the first prompt say install, at the second use the R repair option. This should put it right. Be very careful what you delete in future, this file can not just become missing.
