Got new memory a 1 gig chip and a 512 went to bios said slot 1 not enabled only giving me 512 ram?

ok i know how to install memory doing ti for years this comp is new i put a gig chip in it and a 512 workwed fine on my old comp and yes its ddr and compatible but for some reason this other comp wont take both under system it says i got 338 mb ram and i got a gig and a 512 chip in there? is there a way to enable both slots bios says i got 512 mb on one slot and the other it says not enabled???

go back into bios and where it has the setting enable all slots

some motherboards won't let us use 2 different styles of memory chips...they both have to be either 1 sided or 2 sided (little microchips either on 1 side or both). or...some older motherboards won't accept the newer high density memory...check with the memory manufacturer to see if it's low- or high density.
