Are Sony and Amazon in trouble with their respective e-book readers now that Apple released the ipad?

Its really expensive to be just an e-reader. And I can tell you one of the things I love most about reading on the kindle is that it has e-ink. Even now typing this I can tell I've spent too much time on the computer today because my eyes are starting to hurt. But I know if I go pick my kindle up right now I won't have that problem. Its also great for outdoor reading in the sun, which I love. They're two very, very different devices. I picture the typical iPad reader as being someone who's an occassional reader, not a heavy one and that's really the market that Kindle, Sony, etc. have or are trying to capture.

Jeez no, they shouldn't have any trouble. Back lit displays suck for reading ebooks. And just from a marketing perspective, the name "iPad" doesn't exactly inspire much confidence. It sounds like an electronic maxi pad.

Probably not. The iPad does not have an E-ink display which is much easier on the eyes for prolonged reading.
