Hook up laptop to TV?

Is there some sort of wifi device I can hook up to my tv or cable box to get it on my laptop?

  • I know there are all sorts of different TV tuners and what not that you can hook to your computer, but what I am wondering is if there is some sort of Wifi device that I can hook up to my TV to wirelessly connect my laptop to my TV and vice versa. I would like to be able to watch my cable tv on my laptop, but still be wirless. I would also like to be able to record TV on my laptop and be able to wirlessly connect my laptop to my TV to be able to watch saved movies and shows and pictures and what not.

    Streaming content to and from your tv isn't best done wirelessly as you tend to get stuttering and drop outs - a wired solution using ethernet homeplugs is much better. There is something called Slingbox that streams your TV and allows you to watch on your laptop using software http://www.slingmedia.com/go/slingbox Transferring content from your laptop to a tv can be done using Slingcatcher (a sort of reverse Slingbox) - or using something like WD HD media player which stays attached to your tv http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WD-Media-Player/dp/B001JZFQU4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1255598594&sr=8-1 I'm not aware of a simple wireless device that can solve both these problems
