How do I get my monitor to support my video card?

Latitude D820 Wide Screen - Stock video driver sucks. How do I get better screen resolution? 1280x800 sucks.

  • The business laptop comes with an nVidia Quadro NVS 120M video card that has 512MB onboard memory. The problem is that it's power is designed to support 4 independent external displays and the native LCD. This onboard driver will run a sweet flat panel monitor through the external video port like a champ, but it's attached panel sucks. I can't get a better resolution than 1280x800. I'm looking for a better driver, but it's not to be found at the nVidia website, nor the dell. Any advice?

  • Answer:

Your video driver is tuned for your laptop's display capabilities. Loading a driver other than the Dell/nVidia supplied driver could possibly damage your video card and void any warranties. Recommend that you regularly check the Dell web site for driver updates for all of your laptop's hardware. Until then, avoid using drivers that are off the spec charts.
