Can i hook a monitor, mouse and keyboard up to my laptop and basically have a desktop using my laptop?

  • i know i can hook a mouse and keyboard up but i wasn't sure about the monitor. i thought i could put the laptop to the side and just use the other stuff on my desk when im at home doing stuff.

  • Answer:

You can certainly try plugging that all in. If it does not work, then you will need to get a docking station (sometimes they run around $200).

es you can. Most laptops have a VGA port (blue monitor connection) which you can plug monitor into. If you dont already have USB mouse and keyboard you may have to purchase some because most laptops dont have a PS2 connection for older style keyboards and mouse. Once you have stuff plugged in you just need to switch between monitor modes on laptop keyboard. Usually "Function" button plus F5 or similar. You may need to check laptop manual to find out what function key changes display mode. It is usually presented as a blue rectangle (monitor looking) on one of the F? keys.

You should be able to. Most laptops have a port on the back that allows you to hook up another screen for a dual monitor setup, but you can just go into your display options and set that as the main monitor.

YES, that is what I am doing now. There is a little outlet in the back of the laptop that your monitor can plug right in to.

put the monitor on your vga on the laptop, then in graphics options set to "mirror" monitors. close the laptop monitor and enjoy your new desktop!
