Why is my laptop still charging when the battery is not plugged in?

Laptop Battery shows "Plugged in Now Charging"?

  • My laptop is a Dell Inspiron. Its about 2 years old. I'll just put all the stuff that happened in chronological order. 1) My battery that came with the laptop was at 0% after like a year of using it. 2) I ordered a new one 3) My charger that came with the laptop didn't work (the light wasn't showing up) 4) I ordered a new charger that was for my laptop but 90 WATs 5) The battery I ordered then was said to be "plugged in not charging" (after like a half of year so then it was at 0% 6) I start using only the charger for a half year til then I firgured out I had a warrenty for my battery so I got a new one, Now it says "Plugged in No Charging" after I inserted the battery. I don't know how much money I spent on this. And I'm kind of tired of spending so much. I know for SURE its not the battery. I mean I just got it. Would it be the charger? Or is there anyway to fix it?? I tried that uninstall the battery method thingy on the device mager and scanning it AND the uninstalling it and turning your pc back on (there was more steps but you get the idea?) None of thoses work. And also I got this message at the being of start up The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance the power available. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter." But the thing is my adapter is a 90W Please help :( If your not sure is it okay if you put "Not sure" At the end of your answer? :) Thanks :D

  • Answer:

Try remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Dell Inspiron laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on. Check if it's something to do with your laptop power cord or power source problem. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. --Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. If power jack is loose you can find laptop power jack on ebay. However, fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill. --Also, the green/blue LED on charger needs to be constantly on. If not, replace or exchange the defective charger if you can. Since battery/ ac adapter has its own lifespan and does not last forever, you may consider getting a Dell Inspiron charger under lifetime warranty from store like topmic.com Wish the Best.

Drain your battery all the way, take it out, put back in and charge, that is what i did, on my laptop and it fixed the problem. If that does not fix it, then get a new ac adapter
