Why do my speakers only work when headphones are plugged into my microphone jack?

yea it sounds like a faulty jack. It can easily be repaired at a Best buy, or a nearby computer repair service. It will not cost you that much.

Open up the computer and check the connection with your sound card. It could have come loose from the moterboard. The fact that you need tension on the earphone plug is probably a whole separate issue. That could either be a short in your earphones themselves or just a short in the earphone jack that is on your computer. You would either have to buy new earphones or a new earphone jack to fix that particular problem. I am only about 90% sure on that so I would take a look at my sound card before buying anything new.

if its a cd you are listen to the cd volume may be down, others wise your speakers sux

get a new jack. they're not that expensive to have put in. not much more than $30?

Hmm sounds a a funkified sound card. it depends, i bet the sound card is intgrated to the motherboard which can mean you need a new motherboard. As far as repair it would be best to have dell do it for a high price or just live with the sound you have.
