Why does my laptop turn off randomly?

Why wont my laptop turn on?

• I have a phillips 15nb57 series which is roughly 5 years old... I love it, but now it won't turn on... It charges properly but its been like this for a week now... When I press the power button it comes on for an average of two seconds and then switches off! The last time I used it, I was watching a music video on youtube (I spend a lot of time doing that, or just surfing the internet) then the video crashed! Then an error near my toolbar/taskbar (I'm on vista home premium) came up... I didn't read it all because my laptop turned off but it said 'display driver....' So its something to do with that? Also for about a month before my laptop had broke everytime I moved my laptop it would turn off, I would then have to take the battery out and put it back in to get my laptop to turn on again! I'm not sure what's wrong with my laptop... Its fully charged and still charges properly! Do I need a new laptop? Or is there a solution to this problem? I really don't want to have to get a new laptop and I don't want to lose all my files... Please help! Thank you :)

  There was a similar question before, here was my answer, As a last resort you might need to fdisk, reformat your phillips 15nb57 laptop hard disk clean and reinstall OS. Before going that route, try following simple fixes to see if the problem goes away. Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your phillips 15nb57 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on. Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8, the computer ask you if you'd like to start in safe mode. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter. See if your phillips 15nb57 laptop works normal. If it runs normal now, do the following maintenance and tune up, Uninstall unnecessary programs and applications. Scan with a antivirus program Scan with a spyware/malware program DEFRAG C: CHKDSK C: Clean up and repair registry problems with registry repair software of your choice Use external harddrive for all your future downloads. If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your phillips 15nb57 laptop power cord or power source problem? Defective or insufficient power supply might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. The charger green/blue LED should be on.
