How do I save my battery life?

  • I had just bought my laptop about 2 months ago, and already my battery life is dying. It had about 2 hours to start with, and I'm down to 1 hour. How do I keep it from dropping even more?

    decrease the brightness of the screen, turn off the wireless adapter and bluetooth if you have it and dont put it on charging all day long charge it once fully and then unhook the charger and use it without it.

NICAD batts develop a memory - used for a short time and recharged continually will eventually take only a short charge. NIMH batts do not develop memory - so use and charging makes no difference. The information with my new laptop said it is best to run the batt. completely dead about once a month to increase life. They both have a limited number of cycles.

there's a theory that charging your laptop fully and then unplugging it and using it for just a little time and then going back to charging it again drains the battery life because it isn't using the rest of the battery life that it does have because it keeps getting recharged before getting to it. so, use the battery up and then recharge it at the end. it might not "gain" you battery life, but i think it will help maintain it.

wait for the batteries to totally finish before recharging it (increases battery life) . Also keep it charging for about half an hour more after it is charger (it has an extra battery in it which gets charged to give you more time).

Certain batteries benefit from a complete discharge before recharging them. Give that a try. If that doesn't work, it's possible you have a defective battery or just poor quality. Also know that the more you are using your laptop for the quicker the battery drains. For example, playing movies, music or games will drain battery life faster than just word processing.

Modern batteries don't like to be drained down all the way. Frequent, small charges are preferred.
