Is it possible to connect some kind of external video card to a laptop?

I have an asus G1s with an integrated video card, which is dying because it's overheating (factory defect), and I wonder if there is any solution, beside buying a new laptop. Anyhow I will not buy a gaming laptop anymore, after this experience.

Uptake of new standards is slow. ebay is the only current realistic place to look for add on cards. as things develop, more and more connections are developing In general you cant upgrade, but some laptop models are now supporting the right connections to allow changing video cards. Unfortunately even these standards allow the connections to be soldered making replacement still tricky. read this article as it is interesting if you want to buy a new laptop with the right connections.
