Why is a laptop monitor going black?

How can I close my laptop monitor without it going into Sleep mode?

  • I just got a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista Home Basic on it. Everytime I pull down the monitor to close it, it goes into sleep mode. I want to make it so when I close it it has the same effect as if I just turned off the monitor of my PC: the screen is off, but the computer is still running. How can I do that? Thanks.

  • Answer:

In Control Panel, select Classic View on the left column, then Power Options. On the left column inside of Power Options, select 'Choose what closing the lid does'. Now, next to 'When I close the lid:' select 'Do nothing' from the drop down menu, save changes and close this window... You're done.

Go into control panel then in to power options i think and then i think its advanced if not its in there somewhere you can changed it to just turn the screen off so when you open it it will go back to where you where or u can get it to hibernate.. Let me kno how it goes :)

In XP it works as follows. Hopefully, Vista is close enough that it will help you find it: 1. Right click on your desktop 2. Select Properties from the context menu 3. Click on Screen Saver 4. Click on Power 5. Select the Advanced Tab 6. Modify the "When I close the lid of my portable computer" by pulling down the menu to "Do nothing" Best wishes

Click on the battery icon in the lower right corner, and select "more power options" On the left side of the window, there will be a list. The third down should say, "Choose what closing the lid does" Click on that. Choose the settings that you like, and click "save changes" at the bottom. You'll have to do this for each power option you have. I have mine set to do nothing when I close the lid and the lappy is plugged in. GlGb
