Do you have a Router? Even more important, do you have a wireless router? You need a wireless router and your laptop needs wireless capability. Most laptops have wireless capability but as you don't tell us the make and model of yours, we can't even guess.

Check your router or your modem if they are WiFi enabled. Usually there is a sign/mark in your router or modem that says "802.11b/g/n" or something with 802.x, if it has then it can support WiFi. Just enabled it if it supports it. If not just buy another modem or router.
