Why does my laptop keep freezing since I smashed the monitor?

Why does my Asus brand laptop keep freezing when i move?

  • My current specs are as follows: Operating System MS Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2 CPU Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T6400 @ 2.00GHz 70 °C Penryn 45nm Technology RAM 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (6-6-6-18) Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer Inc. N80Vb (Socket 478) 68 °C Graphics Generic PnP Monitor (1280x800@60Hz) 512MB GeForce 9300M GS (ASUStek Computer Inc) 67 °C Hard Drives 244GB Seagate ST9250320AS (SATA) 46 °C Optical Drives HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50L Audio Realtek High Definition Audio Whenever I move the laptop or I just tilt it, it freezes up. This includes when i get up off the couch (I usually use the couch when i'm using the laptop) or when i sit back down on the couch. When you answer me please state what i can do. I have already used Registry easy, and i have defragmented my disk. My nvidia drivers are also up-to-date. It makes these noises like it is "working" on something. Sometimes it shows "The display driver has stopped working and has recovered" and sometimes it does not. Most of the time i have to turn it off directly using the power button. I have used sfc /scannow and it hasn't fixed the problem. I suspect that it is a problem with the HDD, as i have had the computer for more than 6 years.

Could be some overheating issues it can cause the laptop freeze up. Never use your laptop and charger on bed/couch with fan ventilation covered. Clean laptop air vents with airduster and make sure air vents are not blocked. Always set laptop on a flat surface, so air can flow freely around and underneath it. Buy a good quality laptop cooling pad. Buy a good quality charger. A good quality charger is not supposed to be too hot too touch unless you were using it on your couch or bed that block the heat dissipation and ventilation. That is a bad habit since it will shorten the laptop and charger lifespan significantly. Install more RAM/memory Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter. See if your laptop works normal. Scan with a antivirus program & spyware/malware program to see if there is any unwanted programs. Remove the unnecessary programs and applications. DEFRAG C: & CHKDSK C: ; use external harddrive for all future downloads. If problem persists, as a last resort you might need to fdisk, reformat your Asus laptop hard disk clean and reinstall OS. But before doing so, try the steps above first. Also, try remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Asus laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on. Check if it's something to do with your laptop power cord or power source problem. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. Take the battery out and power on your Asus with the charger only. ---Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. If power jack is loose you can find laptop power jack on ebay. However, fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill. --Always, the green/blue LED on charger needs to be constantly on. If not, replace the defective charger. Since battery/ ac adapter has its own lifespan and does not last forever, to save up some money, you can consider getting a Asus charger under lifetime warranty from store like topmic.com Wish the Best.

Some laptops (I know of one Toshiba), have a sensor for movement that shuts down the disk drive when there is sudden movement. That can be adjusted by software, to allow more movement. When the drive shuts down (parks the heads), it takes several seconds for it to start again, and the system freezes during that time. Otherwise, it could be a loose memory chip or a bad hard drive.

Maybe your computer is just sensitive. You can't jerk around laptops a lot, because it WILL hurt them. Getting off of the couch or something shouldn't cause it to freeze, though. Try setting it on a table or something.. that might help.
