Why won't Modern Warfare 2 run well on my computer?
-
I have an Asus G73fn laptop with i7, 6gb of ddr3 ram, 1gb of video ram, 500 gb 7500rpm hd, button-push overclocking, power mode is performance, anti-virus has gaming mode where it turns off most everything (i've tried it on and off), 1600x900 resolution (lower res doesn't run faster), windows 7 home premium with all trial software removed, no other programs open while i run MW2. I mean, I have 1gb of graphics, why isn't it smooth? When I play online with any quality of connection, by the time the map is loaded (on a new game where everyone starts at the same time), other players have 1-2 kills before I can even start moving! Any ideas? The computer can calculate 1,000,000,000 digits of pi in under 4 hours but it can't run MW2 clean? weird. It runs oblivion ok (could be smoother) with everything maxed out but it should.

Answer:
I would maybe first just try updating your graphic card drivers. I get this on my tower sometimes, I have like a $1,000 gaming tower and it will lag like crazy and just not work well and when I update the graphic card drivers its smooth as can be.

What model video card? I had a similar experience though, I just recently returned an ASUS (forget which model) with a Core i7 740QM + ATI Radeon 5730 card because the thing just DID NOT SEEM quick. Poor framerates, etc, but it benchmarked very well I think it might possibly have to do with the high heat output they get. My CPU core were all idling on close to 60 C, even when I took it outside for 10 minutes on a 30 degree night, and therefore the Turbo Boost (which a low clocked i7 mobile is absolutely dependent upon) is mostly ineffective since it won't work as well under high temps since it can't meet all TDP requirements in order to max out. I ran a few tests on it with RealTemp and it never hit the claimed turbo max per core(s), sometimes not even close The Acer Core i5 + 5650 Radeon I picked up for Black Friday actually seems to run better overall. And it has the same HDD, RAM, and a lower end CPU & video card

Check and see if you have the latest graphics drives for your GPU.

Based on the information on your computer and the specs, it isn't your computer. Sounds like you have a really slow internet connection which is causing the lag. If you are using wireless connection, I would recommend that you connect directly. Call your internet provider and have them check your line to see if you are having any problems.
