Is it possible to upgrade my graphics card?

Is It possible to upgrade my laptops graphics card?

  • i have been told that you can only upgrade if you have dedicated graphics? im not sure if i have this, but i looked at my system info and it says this: NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G total available graphics memory: 1407mb dedicated graphics memory 256mb dedicated system memory 0mb shared system memory 1151mb display adapter driver version: 7.15.11.7614 primary monitor resolution : 1366x768 Direct X version : DirectX 10 Could i upgrade this? and is this graphics card actually any good? Thanks in advance

  • Answer:

I doubt it. Upgrading is tricky ( if it can even be done ) and should not be attempted, because you can seriously kill your system. Also the graphics cards are expensive, and not really worth it. You won't be able to game, if that's what you want.... not today's games, oldies, perhaps, but new ones, nah.

no it accesses its ram from the system ram so cannot be upgraded - also any shared memory type of video card such as this is not really good for gaming needs to be a dedicated memory type

Generally to upgrade a laptop is not cost effective

No; there is no room for graphics card upgrades in a laptop. But a 256M card is no slouch, either.

Not usually..but in some cases certain laptop brands may have a way to upgrade to "certain" graphic cards...u need to check your laptop manuf website to see if possible.

more then likely not. laptops are built by machines and a lot of parts can't be replaced. some can like hard drive or memory but i don't think video cards. it seems like a gaming laptop so there's a chance you might be able to though

There is no way you can upgrade a graphic card on a laptop. The best thing you can do is increase the ram and on some laptops use your system memory for the graphic card (but it seems to be already doing that)

A lot of times they are built right into the MB. THat is why I always will keep a desktop (as well as a laptop) that I can swap parts in and out. AS for the current card configuration....there was another Yahoo answer like thisL http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080917230323AA4yQap

That graphics card isn't terribad, but it's not great either. It's #104 of 170 at http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html As a general rule, laptop graphics chips - unlike desktop PCs - are soldered directly to the motherboard (rather than on a discrete add-in card). There are a few exceptions, but those laptops are made by gaming/high performance laptop makers. If you had one of those, you would probably know it, and have paid dearly for it.

its technicaly not possible because the graphics card of an laptop is so complicated, and so far I never seen a laptop graphics card sold separately, and if it where available to purchase it will be difficult to install in the laptop, even the RAM is no that easy to install on a laptop!!
