How to get a Coordinates of a 3D Object in Android?

Which TABLET to get? HP TouchPad [Android Rooted] VS. KINDLE Fire? Looking for E-book, Netflix, Vid/Mp3 Player?

  • Summary: Which is the best choice? Preferably if you have used both or purchased both. -Appreciate it. Detail on Reason I am Asking: I could go for both if I had both in front and more or less 200$, but am looking for some educated opinions from any table-savvy folks. I am not interested in the iPad due to it lacking flash capibilities and am not looking for recommendations for it, I am ineterested in these two Android Tablets. -The HP Touchpad I know the history behind it, it was being sold around 500$ around Fall 2011, and HP discontinued it/limited or halted manufacturing/support of it around September 2011, dropping to 99$ and selling out everywhere. Months have passed and many versions of Android have been ported to it by the tech community via work and distribution of updates/fixes...so now on many places you can buy an HP Touchpad 16 or 32 GB for 200$, and it can run the native HP-designed WEB OS operating system or run an updated Android OS which has access to the Android apps, Google Marketplace, can play vids thru Netflix android app, ebooks, play youtube videos, surf the web, etc...everything an Android tablet can do for the most part. I am currently using a Coby Kyros 7" Tablet, rooted to access Google Marketplace, youtube, can play vids/mp3s, pds, ebooks, etc. I usually use it for web surfing or watching movies or reading while at a coffeeshop or eating lunch. I like having it to access media or reading material when hanging out or on the go, but would like a bigger more capable tablet without going for an Ipad. I have looked up the Kindle Fire, and it seems to be a great deal out the box (e.g. Versus the rooted HP Touchpad--not a bad thing, just a New Out the Box Kindle Fire is already ready....--except that I have been told and read that the Kindle does not have access to the Google Marketplace...so its basically restricted by it's manufactures as was my Kyros)... It has an Android OS, some limitations on the fact not all Android Apps are available on it, the Amazon Prime yearly fee is 79$/yr. so I think if i get a Kindle Fire I would be getting that in order to be able to have unlimited streaming of the TV/Movies and free ebooks, plus it supports the Netflix android app, and seems to have a Screen as Shiny/Clear/High in resolution probably better than the HP TP, and closer to the quality of a Ipad from some reviews I've come across. I can do without the Amazon membership fee, and feel if I did get a Kindle Fire, and found myself not using the Amazon content much (e.g. since not everywhere I go has Wifi) I will feel I should have gotten an HP Touchpad. I am mostly looking to access pdfs, ebooks, videos I have loaded from my computer to the tablet, Netflix android app, and usual Android apps (which albeit limited on the Kindle, can be loaded ala rooting), so I am unsure which to shell 200$ish for. I will aim to get both outside retail price, e.g. via auction site or from direct party/seller. -Best Regards, using my Coby Kyros for now...

  • Answer:

HP Touchpad 100% I read your question and based on what you are looking for, the HP Touchpad is definitely what you are looking for. You are looking for a good media device, access to Netflix, and you "would like a bigger more capable tablet". I own a Touchpad, and it's fantastic!!! Since you know what "Rooting" is, you won't be intimidated by the process of rooting your touchpad. (Mine is rooted, and it was very easy!!) Google is slowly turning itself into a great media source. The music store is great, and the syncing capabilities are fantastic. It'll take a while to do the main upload of your up to 20,000 songs free, but once you have, you are golden and it'll free up a lot more space for you, if you need it. Plus, they have books, apps, and movies all available right on your rooted Touchpad with the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) software optimized for tablets. Netflix is available through the latest Android Version the CyanogenMod team has put togeter. If you are not familiar with CyanogenMod, they are hands down the greatest group of developers in the game. They put out excellent quality and at a faster rate than the OEMs do. With them backing the Touchpad, you will stay up to date. As for bigger & more capable, the Touchpad is a 10.1" Tablet vs the 7" eReader Kindle Fire, which is what you already own. Touchpad has Twice the RAM : 1GB vs 512MB Touchpad has Quadruple the storage space: 32GB vs 8GB(important for you to store your mp3s) Note:The camera currently doesn't work in the Android root on the Touchpad, but I didn't figure you cared since the Fire doesn't have a camera, anyway. Cool Bonus: Rooting the Touchpad does not erase HPs webOS software, which is actually pretty good. You get the option of playing around in the Android OS via, a customer dual boot screen, or with webOS, which could make a resurgance in the future. In the meantime, it does give you the option, and in webOS, everything including the camera works. I've played around with webOS a little, but I prefer Android. In summary, the Touchpad is going to give you a bigger screen, faster processor, more storage space, an optional operating system to play with and great support from the CyanogenMod Team!

First thing, the iPad can use flash (via the apps Photon Browser or Splashtop) As for the Android tablets, I've tried the Kindle Fire. It's definitely a great device. Very portable. As you've probably figured out by the first line in my answer, I chose the iPad 2 over it, but that doesn't mean I dislike the Kindle Fire. My aunt (also an iPad user) got one for my Grandmother as a surprise present, and she let me use it for a couple hours before she gave it to her. It's pretty cool: - The browser was fast - It's a nice size - The screen was brilliant - The amount of apps in the app store actually surprised me. With what I'd heard in the iPad vs. Kindle arguments, I was expecting like a couple hundred apps or something XD. Not even close. There is a nice selection, and more released every day. - The $79 yearly fee isn't bad. I mean, that's cheaper than Netflix or Hulu, the only difference is they have you pay it up front rather than month by month. - Accessory selection. For me at least, this is HUGE. The Kindle has WAY more of a selection of accessories than the HP Touchpad. Not to mention, the Kindle is much more popular, which means more are being made for it. There really are loads of good things to say about the Kindle Fire. But, there are some negative things I also noticed: - My grandmother doesn't have Wi-fi, so we had to use my aunt's phone to create a hotspot - Every single thing we did opened on that scroll wheel and wouldn't go away. What if my aunt and I had watched something and one of the grandkids got their hands on it... - It was responsive, but not as responsive as the iPad 2 I had at the time. But, for $200, it wasn't bad at all. I was very pleasantly surprised. - Space (If you are by Wifi a lot, this isn't a problem) - No 3G As for the HP Touchpad, I've also done some research on this one. There are so many people who list reasons why one shouldn't buy this product: http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/108481-why-you-should-steer-clear-of-the-99-hp-touchpad http://www.forbes.com/sites/briancaulfield/2011/08/21/thinking-of-buying-a-99-touchpad-dont/ There are loads of others, and they aren't hard to find. Basically, unless you are good with programming, it isn't such a spectacular deal. And, as for Android apps, would they all be supported on this HP Touchpad with an outdated OS? How hard is this to customize? While you are customizing, should something go wrong with your Touchpad, where will you go to get help? If you have to choose between specifically those two, I'd go with the Kindle Fire. More apps are being added for it all the time and it's a good size. It works nicely and is a great product.
