Where to buy second hand PC s?

Old laptop - Doesn't work would a second hand PC retailer buy it too refurbish it?

  • Just wondering if this is viable or am I as well taking it to the dump. If someone would buy it what is a rough estimate of how much they would pay? Its a Toshiba A40 first purchased in 2004 (I think). Do you know of anyone in Edinburgh area that would be good to speak to about it. Or would a charity take it on I seem to recall Oxfam looking for some for Africa at some point. Cheers

  • Answer:

its still a good spec machine and up to modern use so depending on whats wrong with it as some things are simple to fix. a good price can probably be gotten off ebay or charities will take it and pass it on to their tech guys or ebay sales dept.

If it's 4 years old, I doubt you would get much for it, £50 maybe. New laptops with fairly high specs from good manufacturers can be bought cheaply these days, given that a second-hand shop would have to pay for repairs/refurb and make a profit, they haven't got much margin to play with. A charity is your best bet, as long as it's in reasonable working condition. A school or hospital in Africa would probably get well more worth than the £50 you might get. A good make laptop can last for years; I had a compaq 486 that cost my company £2,500 in 1997, they let me keep it when I left a few years later. It's still working, though these days it's only used by my 5yr old niece to learn to type on. So if your laptop only lasted 3-4 years, that's heck of a gift to a school or hospital somewhere that they can't afford new ones

not worth it, there are offers (quite reasonable and cheap prices) buy a new one with guarantee.

Put it on Ebay for personal collection [no postage hassle] as many people want scrap units for parts.
