How do I fix my upside down screen on Vista?

How to fix the blue screen of death in windows vista?

  • My new compaq laptop keeps showing me the blue screen of death. it stays for 3 to 4 seconds then restarts my computer. I just bought my laptop 3 weeks ago and it has windows vista premium. So can someone tell me how to fix it. Thank You

There's a few options available. 1) If you installed any new software or hardware lately, that could be causing your blue screen error as it may be incompatible with Vista. If you installed any new hardware (printer, video card, anything), remove it and reboot. Software? Try booting in safemode and uninstalling the software. 2) Another option, put the Vista DVD in the drive, boot to it (might have to go into the BIOS to set the boot sequence to CD/DVD drive) and then instead of letting the the DVD install, click on "Repair Your Computer" (I think it's on the bottom left of the screen). Click on the the option to run a "Startup Repair" under "System Recovery Options". Hopefully that will do it. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/f768809f-ed90-415f-a83f-89b42108b3551033.mspx#EFF http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/2b3724d1-f4ad-5b26-16dc-3e9e66f4be5e1033.mspx#EVD 3) turn off "Automatic restart on fatal error"... that way the message will stay on the screen long enough to read the details. If you can do that, see what it is on the blue screen that is causing the issue (in particular the numbers after the STOP message such as 0x000000A1... and the message in Capital letters such as MISSING OR CORRUPT HAL.DLL). Once you get the error message, put it in a google search, look for any results from Microsoft... they built it, they know how to fix it. Hopefully you don't have to try step 3... step 2 should do it unless there is some new hardware that is not compatible, or the drive is failing. Good Luck!

Hey man, I've had the same problem with my vista and its home premium. First off, did Microsoft find any "solutions" when it rebooted? I know MIcrosoft thinks they have ALL the answers, but the problem with mine was that my preinstalled "Mcafee" Virus center was not updated with the latest definitions. So after I updated that, i was still get BSOD. yay Microsoft. The easiest thing you can do is turn your computer into Windows 2000 mode, with all the classic icons and start menu. Ever since I've done that, I've had no system crashes and everythings fine. However, it still goes to show that Vista is horrible....
