Can someone send me a link for a RAM upgrade?

I should have a total of 5GB RAM, but only 3GB shows up! Why?!?

  • I have a laptop with 1GB RAM installed, and I just inserted an extra 4GB card, but it says I now have 3GB RAM! My laptop's info: Model: Acer Extensa 5235 System: Windows 7 32bit RAM version: DDR3 I think this is everything I can tell. I once did hear/read that 32bit systems have a limit of 3GB. I like to have the full 5GB, but I don't know if it's worth the risk to upgrade to 64bit... Can someone tell me the (dis)advantages of 64bit, or give a link that describes it? And also, what do I have to do to make the full 5GB RAM work? Thanks in advance!

    Yes 32-bit operating system can only read 3 gb of RAM, 64-bit operating system is not much better, the main thing is that you can install dx11 only on 64-bit, and add more ram. all the other things you can read here : @http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2009/01/07/32-bit-vs-64-bit-windows/

as far as i can tell the max memory for that pc is 4gb, thats 2gb max per ram socket. so your 4gb dimm is only half connected if you like that why you only see 3gb. ie bought the wrong sized memory. it may be possible, that if you remove the 1gb stick, then by a strange quirk of wiring, the whole 4gb may be seen and may work, but that does effectively null out the other socket
