Wireless Network Connections on Win. XP Home, IBM Thinkpad R60?
-
Lately I've been having alot of problems with my wireless connection. I own a NETGEAR router in my house is mainly the only router I use. My Thinkpad has ThinkVantage tools and one of them is Access Connections. This allows me connect to nearby routers, as Window's Wireless Network Connectons would. I prefer Windows way to connect, but It always acts weird. Sometimes it cant connect to ANY routers and then i use the ThinkVantage tool, Access Connections and before it searches for a connection it says "your wireless radio is turned off. this must be turned on to search." i click yes and it searches for my connections. (also HOW does my "wireless radio" keep getting turned off? how do i KEEP it on?)i connect to my netgear and then i go to windows wireless connection and it says that i can use windows to configure wireless connections. i go to the settings and enable window's and then SOMETIMES IT WORKS AND ALLOWS WINDOWS TO CONNECT TO MY NETGEAR. and then sometimes it just disconnects randomly from the connection while im on the web, even if my signal is "very good" so basically these are the things i want -i want to use windows Wireless network connections (not access connections from thinkvantage), accessed from network connections in the control panel -i want my connection from my netgear router to stop randomly disconnecting -sometimes when it disconnects, it cant find any routers , then i turn off my laptop, and it still cant find any until i try to repair it numerous times or search for the connections many times. this is VERY ANNOYING. i want this stopped.

I've got the T-30 & things fo nicely, but they're all subject to gremlins... Have you looked for driver updates? If not, do this: Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Windows Update. When @ Microsoft Updates, click the 'Custom' button, not the 'Express'. This will give you hardware & software updates specific to your unit (hence the necessity to allow the 'Active X'). Express gives Windows operating system updates. And if it runs satisfactorily, create a restore point, so you can get back to that point quickly when all else fails. Bring that forward in time once a week so you don't loose it. Tip: When your system is behaving itself, do a driver backup to a single CD so you can get to them again. It gets harder and harder to find them, and many places charge to get them. I use WINdrivers; excellent & free, from "PC World" here: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fi... Use the 'back up all drivers' for the first BU; & keep it with your unit. For the 'Windows wifi Configure' : Control Panel>Network Connections>right click 'Wireless connections'>Properties>Wireless Networks: here, tick the top box; also check if there are other wifi's in your immediate area...if so, then move your connection up to the top of the list (highlight it, then 'Move Up'): and here also> 'Advanced' button & tick 'Access points only' & uncheck the 'Automatically connect to preferred networks Hope this helps ya'
