How to send an iMovie via email?

How to Transfer iMovie project from Mac to another Mac?

  • I have been working on a DVD movie for quite some time now. I just found out (to my dismay) this weekend that my powerbook G4 does not have an internal DVD burner so I NEED to send it to a computer that does have one. This brings in our iBook G4, which does. The question is, how do I get this iMovie project from the PowerBook to the iBook? I have a firewire, and my project is 3.28 GB. I tried emailing it but it doesn't work. i tried compacting it to send in an email but that made it come out completly fuzzy and incomprehensible. This is for an important deadline so ANY help whatsoever would be appreciated.

  • Answer:

Ok, connect the firewire to both computers. Shut down the one with the file you want to transfer.then restart it and hold down T on the initial start. A firewire symbol should come up. Then on the computer you want to transfer to the computer name should come up on the desktop. Click that and it is basically like you were in the finder of the computer that is shut down. Find the file and drag it onto the dektop.eject it by dragging the orange icon that says your computer name to the trash. that's it your done!

This is very simple! If both your Macs have FireWire, you can use it to transfer data from one hard disk on one mac to another very easily. You will need a six pin to six pin firewire cable. Connect the 2 Macs together with the cable, then turn off the mac that you want to transfer files from. Then turn it back on while holding down the "T" key. Keep holding this key down until you see the firewire symbol on the mac. Your other mac should now have the disk right below your hard disk! All you have to do now is find the file n this disk, and drag and drop it to where you want it on your mac with the dvd burner. Hope this helped, and feel free to contact me with any problems or questions. Good luck!

Connect both your Macs together with CROSSOVER ETHERNET CABLES, after you do that you should be able to communicate with each other. Make sure you set your movie to "shared" or else you wont be able to find the file from the comp that has the DVD burner. but before you transfer make sure the ethernet cable is a gigabit wire or else it'll take a lot longer (gigabit wire=3 sec, 100 Mbit=38 sec, 10 Mb=380 sec). and I cant urge this enough but get a CROSSOVER ETHERNET CABLE or else something may seriously go wrong.

You should be able to connect the two computer to each other directly using an ethernet cable. I did the same thing to transfer my files from my old Mac mini to my new MacBook Pro. I copied over 30GB of files in less than a half an hour. If your project is finished, you should be able to save your project to a disk image, rather than burning it. Then, you could use the ethernet connection to transfer your already finished DVD image to the iBook G4. I don't think Macs require a crossover cable. I used a plain old ethernet cable on mine. That's what the Apple support page told me to do, so I did it. It worked like a charm.
