I am looking Dell laptops. I just use it for downloading music and research. Is 4GB mem and 500GB HD good?

It is more than good enough. My Dell has 4 GB RAM and 320 GB of disk and it is only 50% full (I have several games, movies and all my pictures - couple thousand). The only thing I don't have is all of my music on there as it is on a separate 160 GB drive. I have a lot of music so even if I were to put it on I would not exceed the 320 GB.

Yeah, the laptop has a good speed for just browsing purposes. The 500GB hard drive will hold a lot of songs. If that's all you're going to be doing, then it seems like a good fit. You could probably even go for a laptop with lower specs, like 300GB or so HD and 3GB and it'll still work fine for music and research.

When it is for Music and Movie it just eats your hd space. it does not many any sense. It would way too expensive if you have to take a bigger hard disk for your laptop.. it is better you buys a 250 GB hard disk laptop and buy 1 OR 1.5 TB external hard disk. 4 GM mem is good..

Yes those specs are fine, make sure to get the 4GB of memory though. Don't listen to the other guy. Adding memory know helps keep the system stable down the road, plus newer OS's need more memory. 2GB will get you by, but 4 will make the computer much more futureproof.

Ya It is ok for you to have this kind of configuration for research and music download purpose.But i suggest you to enhance your memory a little bit because it will make it easier for you to access data quickly.

It's more than you'll ever probably need; although it's not 500, it's really about 460. If you do need more, there's always online storage and external hard-drives. 4gb of memory is the most you can get today, even for macs etc. Hope this helps!

4GB Memory is more than enough. You will only need 1GB (maybe 2GB, depending on the OS you choose). 500GB HD means you can store up to 90 000 MP3-files.
