Which laptop is better? dell studio 15 or sony vaio E series?

  • Hi , I am an engineering student in India. I have concluded in buying either a Dell studio 15 or a Sony Vaio E series. But many people advise me to take Sony due to better performance and the graphic card. I want to know if the i3 or i5 really matters(also the Dell has 7200 rpm) as i wont be doing a lot of multitasking. i want the laptop to last for about 4 years. So please help me in choosing the best as per my requirement , customer service, durability and performance ....

    The Dell has a better processor, and the Sony has a better graphics card. The Sony has higher screen resolution but has a lower hard drive speed. i5 is a certainly faster processor, and if you're not going to use your laptop for games, I recommend the Dell. But if you do play video games on your PC or you plan to, I recommend the SONY. Don't get me wrong... the Dell could handle even nearly all new games, but the Sony would be better for gaming. Also, I don't know about Sony's pricing policies in India, but here in Canada, Sony tends to charge a fair amount of money only for their brand...

In my opinion Dell is the better and best one because it has warranty as well as it provides good processin speed.

You should go with SONY E SERIES bcoz Sony is a good service provider and a good manufacturer. No more things to say about sony bcoz sony is universal.. Thanks

Sony vaio is a great machine for multi=media. It handles games movies streaming and has some excellent features for a happy college experience. I used to have one. And i think its still cheaper. However the i5 processor is supposed to be super quick, i want one

As far as performance goes, the Dell would be better, being an i5 vs the Sony's lower spec i3 processor. Also the i3s do not have turbo boost as they call it (a fancy name for on demand overclocking), whereas the Dell does. The screen on the Sony is better though, Full HD compared to a 768 res Dell. But that can be upgraded and I can't imagine it being much more than the price of the Sony. Out of all the upgrades you can do with the Dell that will be the one you notice most. Graphics performance won't be terribly higher on the Sony but overall speed will be a bit more lethargic compared to the Dell. I would take the Dell as it's more likely to last you 4 years in terms of hardware requirements with software etc. 7,200RPM makes a bit of a difference with bootup and read / write and search times, but if you want real speed put in a SSD (though they cost quite a bit more), and store most of your information on a 2.5" portable HDD.
