Can't Decide On a Laptop, Can You Help Me?
-
I have been shopping around for a laptop for about a week now and I just can not decide on one. I have been out of the loop on computers for a few years now, and as anyone who knows computers, knows that is a long time to be out of the loop. So much has happened since. I have done some extensive research, but still can not decide. What I will be using the laptop for: Desktop replacement (won't be hard considering I'm running a 5 year old P4...) Video Games (nothing graphics heavy, but I don't want to wait 3 years from now for a new game to release and I can't play it smoothly - most games include MMORPGs and StarCraft 2) Adobe Applications - Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc for web and graphics design Those are mainly what I will use it for, however, it will be a long time before I can replace this, so it needs to not be uber obsolete in 3 years. So I'm planning to over-do it a little. Specs that I can't decide on: I REALLY want the Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz, but what about the i5? How do they compare to the Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz? I do know that i7 > 2 Duo, but what about i5? Multitasking with Adobe is a pain, so the more Level 2 cache I can have (6MB vs 3MB) the better. RAM: 4GB bare minimum, but is it really necessary to have 6GB? I'm not worried about the HDD size. I haven't really used up my 500GB yet, hell, haven't even used half of that. So a 320GB will be more than enough... Video Card: A real confusion with me... Personally, I'm a fan of ATI Radeon's, but I just want something that will be capable of running games 3 years from now... ATI Radeon Mobility 4670? NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M? 310M? Should I grab a 1GB version or will 512MB be sufficient? I know it may seem like I've already answered my questions, but then I throw the sexy MacBook Pro in there and I start all over... MacBook Pro's are only running the Core 2 Duo 2.53ghz with silly OLD video cards. Starting at 2GB of memory forces me to dish out more money for a 4GB version. But I LOVE how slim they are (0.95"), simple, lightweight, and very sexy chasis design... (it's hard to want anything else). Not to mention the viewing angle on the screen is almost 180 degrees... On some (like the Dell I saw at Best Buy last night was only about 45 degrees). I'm even playing with the idea of getting a Blu-Ray put into it, but that isn't a priority. Windows 7 PRO is a must... I've priced out some nice ones on HP, Sony, and Dell, but from what I hear Sony has a high defect rate on their fans which tend to be ridiculously loud after a short amount of time. Am I throwing too much money into getting the 1gb vid card over the 512mb? Or the i7 over the core 2 duo? Sorry, I'm frustrated and having a difficult time finding A laptop that has what I want all under one chasis (you'd think that'd be easy, but typically it has one thing and leaves one thing out...) I'm not a PC or Apple fan. I'm familiar with both and love both for different reasons... But I wanted to give Windows 7 a try after hearing it's Windows most stable OS to date. (My favorite was Windows 2000 which never crashed, but was definitely not gamer friendly). I also don't want a behemoth of a laptop so I am only wanting one that is 15" or less, slimmer the better, lighter the better. :) I know I'm difficult, I just wish I could BUILD my own! BTW, I'd like to stay below $1,500 because I want to get a 24" monitor to go with it... preferably in the $1000-$1200 range if possible. Thanks for anyone who can help!! I've tried talking to agents on Dell, HP, Best Buy, but honestly? More than half don't know what they're talking about, and they're salesmen first before advisors so they'll try to sell me on THEIR product when I just want the RIGHT product. It's useless talking to them, so I wanted the publics opinion. I've never been so undecided in my life! lol. But this is a lot of money for me and I want to make the right decision. Please don't reply with silly answers like "Go MacBook, you won't regret it" I need some MEAT to your response lol. Seriously, I've been mulling over this for a week now and I know most in's and out's but I am starting to think I'm putting too much power under the hood when I could be saving a little cash to dump into a monitor and software...

Like everything else in this world today, people believe what they are told by the mass publicity advertising ploys. They never tell you what's going on behind the Sean's, Control and Money is what they are more interested in not the consumers, Lets start with Apple Mac's famous philosophy, Control the widget, and the widget will control the widget user, We control the widget so we control the user, Meaning you buy a Mac product but mac still own it, they tell you what you can do and what you can't do with your Mac widget, you pay the price and a high price at that, there is no difference between a Mac and a normal Intel laptop period. Next where have you been over this last month with all the news about windows 7 and IE7, There is a world wide uproar going on, governments have been warning their citizens not to use windows. Next you are looking in the wrong place, for a start when it comes to information on computers going to Best Buys again where have you been they have the worst customer service reputation in America,. again it all comes down to Monopoly, they have the monopoly they have the control Next computers manufactures, according to the consumers Laptop Magazine HP and Dell and Mac in 4th place are rated the worst computer systems to buy The top rated systems are Asus, Acer, Sony and Toshiba in that order, Your Statement I REALLY want the Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz...... Why? My answer to that is There is no software out for it, in fact there is no MS Windows operating system or software out for the dual core processors,. I have had my answer removed for informing people like you about the pit falls of using windows 7 and buying a mac so i can't give you the links to go and check them out for yourself or they will remove this answer. I can give you web links that will open your eyes to what is going on that the consumers don't know about, if your interested click on my name and I will put you in the picture on where you can get FREE operating systems that will run the intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz..... hope this as given you some insight of my 30 yrs of computer experience BTW i'm in FL
